Why the Photojournalistic (Candid) Style Will Make Your Wedding Photos Timeless

When we think of our grandparents’ wedding albums, one image often comes to mind: the bride and groom standing stiffly, looking straight at the camera with polite smiles on their faces, surrounded by a meticulously (and sometimes overly) staged setting. While this traditional style had its heyday, it is increasingly giving way to a fundamentally different approach: photojournalistic-style wedding photography, or candid photography.

As a wedding photographer, my goal isn't to create artificial perfection, but to capture the perfection of what's real. That's why taking a spontaneous approach is the key to creating elegant memories that will never go out of style.

1. Authenticity over artificial perfection

Visual trends come and go. The bold color filters and extremely dramatic poses typical of past years often seem dated today. What never goes out of style, however, is genuine human emotion.

  • The Power of "Candid": Wedding photojournalism is about documenting the day as it unfolds naturally, without constant intervention from the photographer. A genuine burst of laughter during the speeches, a tear discreetly wiped away by a relative, or a knowing glance exchanged away from prying eyes... These candid moments possess an emotional power that no staged pose could ever replicate.

2. A Stress-Free Experience for the Bride and Groom

One of the biggest advantages of the photojournalistic style is felt on your wedding day itself. Having to stop every five minutes to smile for the camera or strike a specific pose you found on Pinterest can quickly turn your celebration into a long, exhausting photo shoot.

  • Enjoy Your Day: My approach allows you to be fully present with your guests. I blend into the background with my cameras to capture the atmosphere without interrupting it. You shouldn’t have to “work” on your wedding day. Your only job is to celebrate; mine is to preserve those memories.

3. The Aesthetics of "Moments Between Moments"

The most powerful wedding photos are often the ones you didn't see me take. They're the moments in between.

  • The Art of Observation: The wind gently lifting a veil, the groom adjusting his cufflinks in a moment of quiet nervousness, or a grandmother’s spontaneous embrace. In a minimalist, refined setting, these subtle details become the centerpieces of a luxurious and sophisticated visual narrative.

4. The 961moments Signature: The Elegance of Vibrancy

Choosing a photojournalistic style doesn't mean giving up all artistic direction. There's a world of difference between a "candid" photo taken with a smartphone and a spontaneous portrait captured by a professional.

  • The Editorial Approach: During couple portrait sessions, I don’t leave you entirely to your own devices, but I also don’t dictate your every move. I position you in the best light, in a setting that reflects our dark, minimalist aesthetic, and I give you subtle directions to encourage natural interactions. The result? Images worthy of a fashion magazine, but ones that are 100% you.

Is this the right style for you?

If you're dreaming of an album filled with posed smiles for the camera at every table at the reception, my approach might not be the best choice for you. On the other hand, if you want a photo collection that tells the genuine story of your love, with a touch of sophistication and mystery, we're a perfect match.
